Research
Phulkari is an embroidered textile, which has strong ties with Punjab. In the past, womenfolk practiced the art exclusively. The knowledge and techniques required for the same were passed on from grandmother to granddaughter and the hours of leisure spent in embroidering a garment together promoted strong family ties. Khaddar served as the Punjabi equivalent for the pages from a girl’s diary, for on it, she embroidered the world as she saw it, her dreams, and her aspirations. The motifs employed symbolized the girl’s thoughts, visions, and emotions. The craft also served as the ultimate personalized gift reserved for momentous occasions like the birth of a child or the wedding of a loved one
Ideations
Final Concept
The essence of the idea is centered on the narratives of phulkari. Each dupatta carries its own tale; for instance, the patterns atop symbolize Punjab's fields. The subsequent dupatta portrays women intricately embroidering phulkari. The third one depicts a father presenting a gift, and the final piece showcases two girls reveling in their phulkari dupattas.
